In 1914, the first public library in Saratoga consisted of a few shelves in the Saratoga Drug Store. Today, it is a beautiful structure, much loved and much used, a cornerstone of our community.

The Friends of the Saratoga Libraries, an all-volunteer, non-profit organization, was founded in 1972 to support and promote the library in the community. Our annual contribution of approximately $140,000 is used for:

  •   More than 700 programs for adults, teens, children, and families.

  •   More than 1,000 additional best seller books, audiobooks, and DVDs and foreign language material

  •   Library programs such as Silicon Valley Reads, The Reading Program for adult literacy, the Summer Reading program, and the Bookmobile.

We raise the money by membership fees, donations, and book sales. We sell used books at the  Book-Go-Round on Oak Street, at the Cafe Bookstore within the library, at the Friends Bookshelves at the Saratoga Community Center, and at quarterly book sales in the library.

 How can you help?

  • Join our organization. Membership envelopes are available at the library and at the Book-Go-Round or join online on our website,

  • Make a donation.

  • Volunteer.  We need folks to support our retail operations, sorting and pricing donated books, transporting them and selling them.

  • Buy our books. We have high-quality, like-new books for all ages and interests. Prices start at 25 cents with many paperbacks at 50 cents

 In conclusion:

  •   To our more than 800 members, thank you.

  •   To our more than 100 members who are volunteers, thank you, thank you

  •   To non-members, come join us for a rewarding opportunity to serve the community and support our beloved library.
